Roselle started as a conversation between two young expat lovers living in Paris in 2011

While working gruelling days and nights in Michelin-starred establishments in France, chefs Stephanie Duong and Bruce Lee dreamed of starting their own pastry shop. Their goal: to share what they learned and what they love to eat with others.

Roselle Desserts opened in the Corktown neighbourhood of Toronto in February 2015. Here, in our small kitchen, we create delicious desserts using the pastry skills we learned while working in some of the top kitchens in Europe and Asia. Whether you need a little pick-me-up, a just-because treat or want to celebrate a milestone, we truly believe that dessert makes you happy.

Our menu is composed of unique desserts with playful local influences. Our pastry selection includes our desserts (eclairs, millefeuille, pavlova, mousse cake), cookies, soft caramels, madeleines, chocolate bars, softserve ice cream, and much loved cake-in-a-cup (a layered dessert offered in ever-changing flavours).

We are not your traditional bakery- we are a fun and playful dessert shop that changes our products and flavours frequently. Our inspiration comes from what we love to eat and the quality ingredients that are available for us to bake with. In summer, we love to work with the local fruit from Ontario’s bountiful farms. In the winter, we work with local dairy and chocolate sourced from around the world. Rest assured that year-round, our goal is always to make simple and tasty desserts that our customers will love.

Do you sell whole cakes?

We do! We offer 3 signature cakes (Whole Cake) that can be ordered every Mondays from 8AM on our website for pick-up the same week. We do not take cake orders more than a week ahead. Due to the demand of our whole cakes, we highly recommend ordering early on Mondays to avoid disappointment. Unfortunately once we’re sold out, we’re sold out. We do not offer custom cakes.

 

 

Do you make everything from scratch?

Yes! We always have and we always will. We use real eggs, premium chocolate, real cream and butter, always. From the buttery almond tart shells, the candied nuts inside, the soft sponge layers, mousse, glaze..we believe you can taste the difference when things are made from scratch and with love. All of our cakes are multi-layered and usually take days from start to completion. We wouldn't have it any other way.

 

 

Do you wholesale?

Everything we make is best enjoyed fresh at our shop. Although we do bake a few exclusive cookies for our neighbours Tandem (they're great- black sesame latte is a must try!) just a few doors down.

 

 

Can I pre-order any desserts?

Absolutely. We have our walk-in menu posted under “Daily Offerings”, feel free to call or email ahead of time and we’ll get everything ready for you. We would ask for pre-payment via e-transfer. As for our rotating specials, they are unfortunately for walk-ins only.

 

 

When do you sell your soft serve ice cream?

We sell soft serve ice cream with recipes we have developed ourselves. No generic, sugary, industrially mixes here.  It is a seasonal item that is weather-dependant. We’ll let you know on Instagram (or if you sign up for our newsletter!) Our softserve is currently back! The current flavour is our signature Earl Grey.

 

 

Why do you have weird evening hours on Fridays?

Pre-covid we used to have evening hours on Fridays & Saturdays. We’d take a little break after our morning hours and then re-open in the evening with a few made-to-order specials. It provided us a chance to do things outside of our usual offerings and gave our customers a place to gather post-dinner to enjoy some sweets.

We’ve had to make adjustments because of Covid, but the “evening hours” spirit is still alive. We are currently offering rotating specials, which you can walk-in and take out to indulge at home. Please note it’s best to arrive early- our specials often sell out within the first couple of hours.

 

 

Do you franchise?

Absolutely…not! We’re a small business just trying to figure it out as we go. We have no order desk, social media manager, marketing budget (please stop calling us, Yelp!)..We’re hands on owners who work the kitchen, the front…the back, the side..you’ll certainly see at least one of us when you visit the shop.
